My First Muse: Justin Adamson

I met Justin on February 17, 2008 and I enjoyed his presence and modeling personality. I don't know if Justin knew, but I once performed a clever ruse on him by pretending to be his secret admirer on MySpace. Around 2008, MySpace was the social network while Facebook was only restricted to profiles with ".edu" email addresses—restricted to college and university students.

Hiding behind a false profile as Justin's admirer, I was able to obtain his work address. During the course of the ruse, Justin and I have known each other professionally for several months and I have photographed Justin numerous times for my photographer biography features and editorials for magazines.

If I remembered correctly, his birthday was sometime in April. When April 2009 came, I printed a 20" X 16"  print of him, I photographed on the El Mirage Dry Lake. He suspected that I orchestrated the ruse, but I was clever and denied his guesses. I requested a drop-ship service from my printing company and Justin was positively surprised to receive the print on his birthday. He complimented on a job well done while I played the part of the secret admirer well.

Waxy Maize (Corn) Appreciation

I prefer this brand. I wait until the store near me has 2 packs for $3 sales. Each packages contains 2 full waxy corns (frozen and already boiled). To prepare, it is best to re-boil and not steam, despite any instructions. Boil for about 10 minutes until soft. Use tongs to test: pick out a kernel or two from the corn and taste. If the kernel taste soft, chewy, and with a "sticky" texture. It is ready. Else, boil an additional 2 minutes or more.

If you're Asian, chances are that you have tried "waxy or sticky" corn. As a Burmese, born and raised in Rangoon until 8 years old, I have been living in the US since 1990 first as a naturalized and later full-fledged US citizen. Waxy corn is best described as sticky rice fused with corn. The corn kernels' texture is sticky like sticky rice; however not as sticky—if that made sense. Perhaps Japanese rice is a better comparison of stickiness. If you tried Japanese rice, it is a glutinous texture when cooked. Waxy corn doesn't taste as sweet as your "corn on the cob." If you're non-Asian and have tried waxy or sticky corn, let me know your thoughts and opinions. Did you like it? Would you recommend our Asian corn to your Caucasian corn fans?

LOVE: Photography Quote for Inspiration Daily Reflection

I found a great photography quote, which reminds me why I am doing photography and not behind the counter being a pharmacist. Source: http://photographyseethelight.blogspot.com/2012/08/10-things-art-director-looks-for-in.html.

If you are getting into photography for the money, try a different career. I am a photographer because I love beauty, I love creating and capturing gorgeous light, and I love making things pretty.

You have to learn to love the simplest things, like a bottle of shampoo, and turn it into a hero, a knight in shining armor, answer to every head of hair’s needs. Do you really, really love making great images?

Then follow your heart, and the money will come.

Dissatisfied with Eurovision 2013 Grand Finals

Here is the official link to Eurovision 2013 Grand Final list: http://www.eurovision.tv/page/malmo-2013/about/shows/grand-final. The song selections are poor. I am going to tune into the show contest on May 24, 2013 to see who will be the ESC 2013 winner. I was cheering for Margaret Berger's entry with I Feed You My Love. The song and the sound productions are superb! Here are the songs I have picked that deserve more attention. I'll update my list as I remember the songs.

Jeff Bridges

Mr. Jeff Bridges photographed by Mr. Jerry Avenaim. I had the honor and privilege of retouching the image. I used PhaseONE CaptureONE PRO 7 to make a great starting black and white conversion. I then exported and finalized—dodged and burned—in Adobe Photoshop CS6. I screen-captured the image from Jerry's Facebook profile.

Portrait Fun with Marco Dapper

Photographing Marco is always fun. I had a limited time, before Marco had to run an important errand for a wedding. He is originally from Oakland, CA and I think one of his closest friends was getting married. That was why he drove up to northern California from Los Angeles. Next the end, I asked Marco, if he would be OK to photograph him in his CK underwear. He didn't mind and I took these fun images of him They're probably never be shown in my portfolio, but for a photography blog, these two images reminded me of how much fun I experienced photographing Marco.

Who Would You Rather Be: Boss or Leader?

I found the following graphic from "Linux for Geeks" and I found the graphic compelling and interesting to ponder. Part of me wants to take on the role of the leader and actually working and getting my hands and feet dirty more than the idea of being on a higher ground and directing from above. I think I possess traits and qualities to lead more than being a boss.

What about you? Who do you want to be be and why?
